Within the project ‘OpenLab KI – OpenLab for Data Analysis and Applied AI’ a cross-domain framework for the analysis and processing of optical tomographic image data is developed, which can be used for the investigation of material surfaces in the field of manufacturing and quality assurance as well as in the field of medicine, e.g. examinations of skin and retina data. This framework is intended to serve as a contribution to interdisciplinary teaching in data skills in almost all departments of the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena. Through cooperation and networking with local industry (Carl-Zeiss Meditec), research institutes (Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology Jena), hospitals (SRH Wald-Klinikum Gera) and local partners in science and translation (InfectoGnostics Campus, Medways, and SpectroNet), anonymized datasets will be made available as a basis for the training of young scientists and for scientific work within the project.

Explainable AI methods will be used to draw conclusions about the causes of the classification performance of established neural networks.
