Official designation and new logo strengthen profile and visibility in biophotonic research.
The working group at the Department of Medical Technology/Biotechnology at Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences in Jena is growing rapidly—and is now reflecting this success externally: Since August 1, 2024, it has been officially named the “Biophotonic Instrumentation Group” (AG Biophotonische Instrumentierung).
The new name not only marks the beginning of an important chapter, but also strengthens the group’s scientific positioning in the research environment. A specially developed logo expresses this step: a stylized heart, pierced by a gear wheel, symbolizes the close connection between medicine and technology – the core of biomedical engineering. A cone of light radiates from the tip of the heart, fanning out into a spectrum of colors, reflecting the central role of light and the thematic diversity of the research.
With this reorientation, the Biophotonic Instrumentation Group reaffirms its mission: to develop innovative biophotonic technologies for clinical application, thereby bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and practical healthcare.
