Carl Zeiss Foundation supports bold projects in the STEM field – INTACT project presents progress.

On September 23, 2024, the research groups funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation (CZS) as part of the “Wildcard” program met at the foundation’s headquarters in Stuttgart. The program offers interdisciplinary teams of three scientists each the opportunity to test unusual and risky research ideas at a very early stage of development – with maximum freedom for creative approaches.

At the network meeting, Prof. Dr. Iwan Schie presented the progress of the INTACT project. The aim of this project is to develop a closed, intelligent system that not only transports chyme (digested food), but can also continuously analyze its chemical composition.

Despite considerable personnel challenges in the first of a total of two project years, exciting developments have already been achieved. These impressively demonstrate how high-risk research approaches can provide concrete impetus for medicine and biotechnology with the support of the CZS.

The meeting once again highlighted how valuable open exchange between the funded groups is – and how bold ideas can lead to innovative solutions.
