Science never sleeps: a dazzling Long Night at EAH Jena.
On November 22, 2024, visitors to the EAH Jena experienced a night full of interactive experiments, exciting insights into science and technology and unforgettable experiences for all age groups. The Biophotonic Instrumentation Group’s laboratory was one of 80 stations that could be explored at the university.
From 6 p.m. to midnight, the night owls were able to learn about the basics and applications of optics and machine learning. The demonstration of a MEMS mirror was particularly fascinating: using a graphics tablet, guests’ hand-drawn sketches were projected onto a screen, clearly explaining how this technology works.
Another highlight was a matchbox game that playfully illustrated how artificial intelligence learns and develops. There were also small experiments on optical phenomena such as light refraction and color mixing. Visitors were also able to understand how a pacemaker works and experience various applications of 3D printing live in action.
The Biophotonic Instrumentation Group’s current research projects, in particular on optical coherence tomography and hyperspectral imaging, were also presented and visitors were able to learn more about them.
We are already looking forward to the next Long Night of Science and hope that visitors will remember this exciting and varied evening for a long time to come!
