EAH Jena receives funding for innovative teaching projects in the digital space.
Since 2018, the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture and the Stifterverband have been awarding fellowships for innovations in digital university teaching. The aim is to develop new digital teaching and examination formats, strengthen inter-university exchange, and anchor digital innovations in universities in the long term.
Four projects from Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena have been selected for the 2025/26 funding period, starting on September 1, 2025. One of these is an AI-supported learning assistance system designed to provide students with personalized support throughout their studies.
The system is based on a large language model with an agent structure. It analyzes individual learning progress, identifies knowledge gaps, and generates adaptive explanations, learning recommendations, and in-depth content. The cross-module linking of teaching content creates a continuous, individually tailored learning path. At the same time, lecturers receive anonymous feedback on the effectiveness of their courses.
Particularly important: the system will be implemented in a manner that complies with data protection regulations and is scalable, so that it can be used in various degree programs. Furthermore, all content will be made available as Open Educational Resources (OER) and the system will be published as open source software – so that universities throughout Thuringia and beyond can benefit from the results.

With funding of up to €50,000, the fellowship creates the necessary space for the development of this innovative project, which is set to have a lasting impact on digital university teaching.
