Master’s thesis
on the topic:
“Construction and Evaluation of a Hyperspectral Imaging Set-up for Biomedical Technology”
Christian Krüger
This master’s thesis involved the establishment and description of a special measuring station for hyperspectral imaging. This opens up a fascinating field of research in biomedical technology, which also offers a wide range of applications from earth observation to medical diagnostics. With the help of this measuring station, the basis of a further future-oriented research area was also laid.
An outstanding advantage of hyperspectral imaging over other spectroscopy methods is the simultaneous acquisition of all reflection, absorption or fluorescence spectra according to each individual pixel of hyperspectrally acquired images. This precise data acquisition enables, among other things, the identification of biochemical changes that would not be visible with conventional imaging methods.

In order to make it easier for future researchers and interested parties to get started with this method, the thesis was conceived as a kind of step-by-step guide in which, in addition to presenting the necessary hardware and software implementations, algorithms for extensive data processing were also outlined. In addition, dark current characterization, noise analysis, spectral calibration and morphological investigations were examined in detail.
Finally, the qualitative measurement of a biomedical example (see figure), the theoretical discussion of the aforementioned criteria and the analysis of various test objects revealed a high correlation of results with the findings of other scientific publications.
